Proposal Description

Commercial centers (large shopping malls, department stores, commercial complexes, etc.) are one of the core areas of urban electricity consumption. Their load types are extremely diverse, mainly including: HVAC systems such as central air-conditioning units, cooling tower fans, circulating water pumps, and fresh air units; transportation equipment such as escalators, elevators, and conveyor belts; lighting and display systems such as LED screens, advertising light boxes, decorative lighting, and emergency lighting; kitchen equipment in food and beverage outlets, including electric stoves, ovens, freezers, and exhaust fans; as well as low-voltage devices like cash registers, surveillance security systems, information display screens, and office computers. Electricity usage in commercial centers shows significant seasonal and time-of-day fluctuations—summer cooling loads overlap with peak holiday foot traffic, resulting in concentrated reactive loads and sharp increases in reactive current demand. At the same time, lots of nonlinear devices like variable frequency air conditioners, LED drivers, switched-mode power supplies, and elevator converters generate substantial harmonic currents during operation, mainly 5th and 7th harmonics, with 3rd harmonics also occurring due to three-phase imbalances. Harmonic currents circulating in the distribution system not only cause extra heating in transformers and lines, accelerating insulation aging, but can also lead to capacitor bank overload and burnout, erroneous operations of sensitive electronics, and even energy meter deviations, directly impacting the power cost and reliable operation of the shopping center.

Recommended Solution

In the low-voltage distribution system of commercial centers, install the IVL-RCS static filtering compensation component. This component consists of filter capacitors and filter reactors, specifically designed for reactive compensation and filtering in harmonic-polluted distribution systems. The RCS series filter compensation component with 7% reactance has a tuning frequency of 189Hz, effectively suppressing 5th and higher harmonics while providing reliable reactive compensation. The RCS series component with 14% reactance has a tuning frequency of 134Hz, effectively suppressing 3rd and higher harmonics, suitable for commercial scenarios with prominent three-phase imbalances. The component features a modular structure, allowing flexible grouping based on the actual load of the commercial center, ensuring a high power factor under both light and heavy load conditions. Combined with our high-voltage switchgear, low-voltage switchgear, box-type substations, cable branch boxes, switching stations, ring main units, gas-insulated switchgear, eco-friendly cabinets, and prefabricated cabins, we can provide a full-chain power quality solution from high-voltage incoming lines to terminal low-voltage distribution, ensuring safe, stable, and efficient operation of the power supply system.

Solution Benefits

Effectively raise the power factor of the distribution system in commercial centers to above 0.95, avoiding power factor fines and reducing monthly electricity costs; reduce reactive current flowing through transformers and lines, lowering line and transformer losses and improving energy efficiency, directly saving operating costs; filter harmonic currents, protecting critical equipment like central air-conditioning units, elevator converters, and LED display drivers from harmonic damage, extending equipment lifespan and reducing maintenance and replacement costs; suppress harmonic amplification, eliminate system resonance risks, and ensure uninterrupted, reliable power supply to sensitive loads such as fire protection, security, and cash register systems, preventing operational interruptions or equipment failures caused by power quality issues. The solution provides both energy savings and reliable operation, creating a safe, green, and efficient power environment for commercial centers.
