What are the differences between low-voltage and high-voltage distribution cabinets, and where are they used?

Low-voltage and high-voltage distribution cabinets are two common types of distribution equipment in power systems. They have some obvious differences and their own application ranges.

First, a low-voltage distribution cabinet refers to distribution equipment with a rated operating voltage not exceeding 1000V. It is generally used in distribution systems in factories, commercial buildings, residential areas, and other places. Low-voltage distribution cabinets mainly serve to distribute the main power supply to different subsystems or equipment, and to protect and control electrical equipment. They usually use AC power as the input, with relatively low safety requirements and cost, making them suitable for places that require lower voltages.

On the other hand, a high-voltage distribution cabinet refers to distribution equipment with a rated operating voltage above 1kV. It is generally used in boost stations, substations, and large industrial enterprises in power systems. High-voltage distribution cabinets are mainly used to distribute the high-voltage electricity from substations to various users or equipment, enabling long-distance power transmission and supply. They can use either DC or AC as the input power, have stricter safety requirements, and more complex technical requirements, making them suitable for places that require high-voltage transmission.

In general, low-voltage distribution cabinets are suitable for industrial, commercial, and residential places where safety requirements are not very high, mainly used for general power supply, lighting, sockets, motors, and other circuits’ distribution and control. High-voltage distribution cabinets, on the other hand, are used in large power systems that need long-distance transmission and power supply, mainly for boosting, distributing, and controlling high-voltage networks.

Overall, low-voltage and high-voltage distribution cabinets differ significantly in use and voltage, and each has its own application range in different places. In practical applications, it’s necessary to choose the right distribution equipment based on the specific location and electrical system requirements to ensure safe and reliable operation of the power system.
